My first 3-Day Refresh

Last week I completed the 3-Day Refresh, which is a cleanse from Beachbody.

The 3-Day Refresh is a scientifically designed program that helps you fast-track your weight loss, kick-start healthy eating, and get a clean break from bad nutrition habits. 3-Day Refresh is a simple, straightforward program that will help cleanse your body and improve the way you feel—without starving yourself. Unlike juice cleanses or liquid fasts which tend to be high in sugar and low in protein (leaving you feeling weak, hungry, and sluggish), this easy-to-follow program helps support your metabolism while nourishing your vital organs. For 3 days you’ll follow a program of 3 shakes a day, a fiber drink, plenty of filtered water, plus a wide array of fresh fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats throughout the day to keep your energy and metabolism going.

So how did I like it? What were my results? Let’s find out…

Day 1.
So I planned the Refresh after signing up to be a chaperone for my daughter’s field trip to the Zoo, not realizing it until I was grocery shopping.  I am not sure if that was stupidity on my part or sheer genius, but honestly, there is never a “good” time.  There are always events where food is involved – that’s just our culture. Memorial Day weekend and my birthday was the week before and boy, did I enjoy myself foodwise.  I didn’t miss one workout, but I ate cheesecake, ice cream, cheeseburgers, and more ice cream.

So Day 1 begins with black coffee. Probably the one of two things I was most hesitant about. If you know me, you know I love coffee and I love cream in my coffee, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would have been. For three days I can get through on black coffee. For breakfast, I made a Strawberry Shakeology blended with ice, water, & vanilla extract, along with eating half a banana.

I packed two shaker cups, the fiber sweep, my lunch of cucumbers & hummus and grapes plus the vanilla shake, and plenty of water.

As the morning continues on, I am on the bus with my group of children for the field trip and I realize I better drink the fiber sweep before we get to the zoo so it’s over and done with.  Never having the fiber sweep, but reading many (not-so-pleasant) reviews, this is the second aspect I am hesitant about.  And what if I need to run to the bathroom with my group of kids?  I couldn’t really think much about it, so I mixed it up, threw it back.

All that worrying and it wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t pleasant either.  I put my shaker cup of water in the freezer to get the water super cold before leaving.  To me, it was like drinking a healthy iced tea, a little grittier and not as refreshing.

But it was done for Day 1.  Tomorrow I will add some lemon and cinnamon to see if that helps out. I didn’t need to run to the bathroom with my group of children I was chaperoning – thankfully!

Dinner was a small mixed green salad with peppers, grape tomatoes, pumpkin seeds and a dash of lemon juice & olive oil.  It was completely refreshing!
After dinner, my girls have been asking us to go outside and ride bikes or do a family walk. I was talking to my neighbor about the Refresh & realized I completely forgot to drink my dinner shake. Can you believe it?

Overall Day 1 went really well.  Exhaustion set in my 8pm and I was asleep by 9pm.  Considering my full day of playing chaperone and walking over 10k steps by 2pm, I felt well!

Day 2
Woke up, weighed myself and happy to report I lost 3.5lbs.  THAT will definitely keep me focused through Day 2.  But I was going to keep myself super busy so I wouldn’t think about food and stay out of the kitchen.

Breakfast for Day 2 was my Strawberry Shakeology blended with ice, water, vanilla extract and a dash of cinnamon and a bowl of grapes.

For the Fiber Sweep, I mixed 8oz of water, 1 tbsp. of lemon juice & a dash of cinnamon and then added in the fiber sweep.  MUCH better.

For dinner, I had half a serving of a mixed greens salad and green beans from the 3-Day Refresh manual, plus the vanilla shake.  As I was making dinner for my family, I would drink my shake because I was starving and I didn’t want to snack on any food.

As far as my energy level, I feel great.  My family and I took a short walk Tuesday evening after dinner.

Day 3
Another two pounds down, for a total of 5.4 pounds.

Last day, LET’S DO IT!

I am feeling fantastic.  I believe your attitude has a lot to do with how you feel.  When you are positive about an experience, you are more likely to look at it with open eyes.

Breakfast today was my last strawberry Shakeology and a serving of fresh strawberries.

And cheers to my very last day of the Fiber Sweep! Day 3 I am feeling like a pro now.

So I decided during the Refresh I would take time off from intense exercise. However I had to teach my senior fitness class which I am not sure if that did me in or the stormy weather we had that afternoon, but I was then exhausted. All I wanted to do was snuggle under the blanket and take a nap! By the time dinner rolled around and the rainy weather cleared I felt so much better. We took a long walk with our doggies after dinner.

Final Results
I lost 7.6 pounds and 7 inches overall.  WHAT? This is exactly what I needed to get myself back to the weight I was after 21 Day Fix Extreme.
